ODOR-X All-Purpose Stain and Odor Remover Review

ODOR-X All-Purpose Stain and Odor Remover ReviewWhen your kitty has an accident outside of the litter box you are probably tempted to use whatever cleaners you have on hand. Initially, it may seem the cat urine odor and stain are gone and forgotten, but in a matter of hours or days, the cat urine odor in the “clean” spot is back. There are products to effectively clean cat urine odor and other pet accidents permanently, but an average household cleaner will not resolve the problem. You will want to use a highly effective cleaner like ODOR-X when removing cat urine, odor and stains, as well as other things.

What is Odor-X?

Odor- X is a commercial-grade sanitizer and odor eraser. It is sold in a concentrated form to attack odors and replace those odors with a fresh citrus fragrance. This means you are getting an industrial strength cleaning product and a little goes a long way. Odor-X breaks down stains with water added making it water soluble. If using for general cleaning, a mixture of 1 part ODOR-X to 30 parts water works and 1 to 10 will break down most tough stains and odors.

ODOR-X is a proprietary mixture of high foaming agents, odor absorbing compounds and disinfectants.Meaning it has a wide spectrum of germ killing ability,  low toxicity and low corrosivity, is simple to use, long shelf life, highly concentrated, and safe on almost all surfaces. ODOR-X is user friendly and simple.

Why Cat Urine Smells So Bad

Cat urine is not that different from other animal urine but left unnoticed can be the start of a problem. Basically, cat urine is composed of five different bacteria strains. Two of the bacteria strains are in the cat marking scent, while the others are in the cat urine, the spray, and the uric acid. This bacteria is responsible for the repulsive cat urine smell. Cats tend to not drink as much water as other animals making their urine extremely concentrated. This concentration of bacteria is what results in the strong smell of cat urine. The smell of added hormones that cats eliminate when they pee doesn’t help. Male cats that are not neutered, send testosterone-rich urine signals to other male cats to stay away , while letting female cats know they are in the area. Males cats can spray for many reasons, not just due to hormones. They may spray due to stress, territory, anxiety, diet, frustration, lack of playtime or territorial conflicts with other male cats. If your cat is spraying it is important you identify the reason and remove it in order to correct the behavior.

How To Use ODOR-X

ODOR-X is great for small stains. Cat owners sometimes face the frustration of vomit stains on various surfaces. Whether it be from food, bile or other things ingested, the excretion can leave a terrible stain. The dyes in cat food can be difficult to remove and some cleaners will only remove the stain temporarily, leaving a spot where it was left to pop back up. ODOR-X can be diluted in a spray bottle and used to spot clean when needed. Usually a 10 to 1 ratio can be used to spot clean and remove pet vomit spots, however more maybe necessary for old or heavy stains.

ODOR-X can remove many other types of stains and odors as well. As stated on the label, it can be used for garbage, porta potties, skunk odor, mold, mildew, smoke odor and more. You can even use it for odors on furniture, rugs, around litter boxes, carpet, hardwood floors, tile and many other surfaces while leaving behind a pleasant citrus scent. Odor-X can remove visible urine stains by spot cleaning, but it is recommended you use a carpet cleaning machine if the urine has already settled into the padding.

How to Clean Up Cat Urine

  • Grab a paper towel, and try to blot up as much of the urine as possible. If it’s a large spot and you don’t want to waste paper towels, use a cloth or towel that can be thrown away. If the spot is on the carpet, stand on the wet spot over the towel (wearing shoes). Try not to rub the spot. If it’s dry, pour cold water on the stain, and blot.
  • Use a product such as ODOR-X and spray it on the soiled area for 5 to 10 minutes. Make sure to test on a small area first and follow instructions on the label.
  • Blot up as much of the cleaner and moisture as possible.
  • Once the spot is all dry, vacuum the area. If the stain is not entirely gone, repeat or consider using a carpet cleaner to get deep.
  • If your cat urinates on clothing, linen, or textiles that can go in a washing machine, run them through a cold-water cycle immediately with a dash of ODOR-X and hang them outside to dry.

My Opinion of ODOR- X

I personally recommend ODOR- X not just for pet stains and odors but all other cleaning. I recently bought a house and the previous owners had lots of puppies that I am assuming peed all over the floors. Having tile floors means the urine probably soaked into the grout and nothing was getting the odor out! ODOR- X came to my rescue and I no longer have puppy pee odor in my house. I have also used it to treat pet stains on my furniture and carpets. I keep a spray bottle of it diluted, with a 10 to 1 ratio, and spray it on any area needed. It has consistently removed the odor and the stain from the treated areas. I also use it to clean my cat litter box as well as the dog kennel. Since it is a heavy-duty cleaning product, it can also be used for removing blood stains, mold and mildew, beverage spills and more. It also covers the odors of smoke, skunks, port-a-potties, hot garbage, feces, and any other odor you want removed. I will definitely be using this, at a 30 to 1 ratio, all around the house on my floors, granite, toilets and even on laundry when needed.

If you have pets, you have stains and smells around your house. A cleaner and odor destroyer like ODOR-X will eliminate the stain and the odor while leaving behind a nice citrus smell. Click here to learn more about ODOR-X or purchase.

Best Wet and Canned Cat Food

Best Wet and Canned Cat Food

Many cat owners rely on dry cat food because it is less expensive, easy to store and it can be left out all day for your cat to nibble on. Wet and canned food is more expensive than dry food but both can be nutritionally complete. Dry cat food can be high in carbohydrates and there is some evidence that shows this may predispose certain cats in becoming overweight and possibly developing other health issues. The single biggest difference between the two food types is the moisture content, with wet and canned food having a much higher moisture content than dry food.

Benefits of Wet and Canned Cat Food

Quality wet or canned cat food is rich in nutrients and usually more so than a quality dry cat food. Today there is a wet food formula for nearly every feline diet including organic, high protein, weight-maintenance, diabetic, sensitive-stomach and more. In general, wet and canned foods usually contain less wheat, grains, and other carbohydrates that are found in mass produced dry cat food. These carbohydrates, in large amounts, are not healthy for your cat’s diet and can cause problems for some cats.

The high moisture content in wet and canned cat food can be beneficial to cats with urinary tract problems, kidney disease or diabetes It can help compensate for a low thirst drive, which may be partly due to their evolution. The higher protein levels found in wet and canned food may be beneficial to strict carnivores like cats, who depend on consuming animals to meet their nutritional needs and require up to three times the protein of omnivores.

Wet and canned cat foods are similar to food your cat would eat in the wild and they usually have higher levels of animal-based proteins. Wet and canned foods are also not exposed to as much heat, as dry food during the cooking process, so it maintains more of its nutrients.

Wet and canned cat food is known for the following:

  • It has higher moisture content, which helps keep your cat hydrated and may lower the chance of urinary-tract problems.
  • Wet and canned food is often more appealing for finicky eaters.
  • It tends to have more fat and animal protein, with fewer carbohydrates, than dry food.

NomNomNow Cat Food Review

NomNomNow Cat Food Review

NomNomNow, Inc is a subscription cat (and dog) food delivery service that is all the rage right now. They not only deliver fully customized meals to your door, but also guarantees to provide human grade, restaurant quality ingredients in every meal.

NomNomNow was created by four co-founders; Alexandria Jarrell, Wenzhe Gao, and brothers Nate and Zach Phillips. In 2015, these four animal lovers began producing and shipping out fresh and healthy meals. As of May 2018, the company started offering cat food.

The company prepares their recipes in a California, FDA compliant, kitchen with the help of board-certified veterinary nutritionist Dr. Justin Shmalberg, who guides recipe creation and production.

How it Works

To get started with NomNomNow, you will create a profile for your pet, which asks you to share their current weight, target weight, and preferred protein. This part is necessary to get a price quote, because portion sizes for each animal will depend on its weight.

Once you are all signed up, you will get a shipment with 14 meal packs of the selected meal choice but  you can always go back and change your preferences if you want to try something else. You will be updated on every stage of your delivery via email as well as provided tracking information. The first box also includes fun treats, like a bag of chicken jerky.

Once you’ve selected your cats meal plan, you will receive monthly shipments of 56 individual packets of food, which will arrive boxed fresh with ice packs to keep it cool. The packets should be stored in the freezer and removed in small batches to thaw in the fridge.

What’s in the Box?

The first shipment arrived safe in a heavy-duty brown shipping box with the company’s logo on the side. A message on the box recommends refrigerating the contents as soon as possible. Our trial order contained 14 meal packs of the Chicken Chow-Wow recipe and the Flavorful Fresh Fish recipe. The food was safely wrapped up between two large reusable gel ice packs and a thick insulating liner made of 100% recyclable PET. Everything was nice and cold inside but should be refrigerated as soon as possible. The packaging also states that you should use or freeze the food packets within 8 days of receiving them. There was a detailed information booklet, recommended servings brochure and feeding magnet inside. Also included with the order was a bag of chicken jerky, a flavor packet and a container of beef broth.

Taste Test

Honestly, my kitties are not picky eaters. But I noticed right away they both really liked the food. As soon as I put the bowls down, they threw their faces in and there was a lot of warning growls going back and forth. By the second feeding, I couldn’t get the food out of the package before one cat was crawling up my leg and the other was plotting to trip me. Feedings have become a little aggressive, but that is probably a sign that both kitties really love this food. There was no difference in their reactions, whether I was feeding them the Chicken Chow-Meow or the Flavorful Fish Feast.

My Thoughts

I really like that I can see  and identify the ingredients in the cat food. I also like the ease of the pre-portioned packs being the right amount for each meal. This is a great replacement for wet food and the ingredients can’t be beat. However, a company that delivers fresh cat food to your door at an average of $35 per week, isn’t cheap.

If you’re looking for wholesome cat food, that is convenient and beneficial go ahead and give NomNomNow a try today. Your cat will thank you!

Top 3 Best Catnip Toys

What does Catnip do?

The science behind catnip is in the chemical reaction that occurs within your cat’s brain when he encounters the substance. The chemical in catnip called nepetalactone is what cats respond to. Two out of every three cats experiences a unique hallucinogenic reaction when they come in contact with the substance, because of their unique sense of smell.  So catnip is almost like a drug of sorts, that cats really enjoy and it is perfectly healthy for them to partake.  Most cats react to catnip by rolling, flipping, rubbing, and eventually zoning out. They may meow or growl at the same time. Other cats become hyperactive or downright aggressive, especially if you approach them. However, not all cats react to catnip. Kittens will not show the behavior until they are at least 6-8 weeks old. Catnip toys can be a great addition to your home, because your cat will absolutely love them and watching them run around the house will be entertaining for you.  Now you just need to choose the right catnip toys, to guarantee your cat’s enjoyment.

How to use Catnip

When it comes to picking out the perfect catnip toys, you will want to pick favorites that your pet already enjoys playing with.  A typical dangling cat toy is a good idea, as most cats love to play with them and your pet will have hours of fun with the added catnip surprise. There are also small catnip toys that resemble mice that you can throw across the floor and really get a kick out of watching your cat chase after.  Many catnip toys are refillable and have a special catnip compartment. There are so many different types of catnip toys available, so you’ll simply want to look for variations of the items your cat already currently enjoys.

It is always good to keep a supply of catnip on hand, so that you can replace the catnip filling in their toys from time to time.  Over prolonged use, catnip toys will eventually be less effective and in order to keep kitty interested, you will need to refill them. You can also use catnip as a training tool. When you buy a new kitty condo for example, you can put a little catnip around the outside, so that your cat knows it’s his domain and will start using it immediately.  Catnip is also remarkably helpful around scratching posts, encouraging your cat to focus on the post, instead of your furniture when claw sharpening time comes.

Can Cats Overdose on Catnip?

Like almost anything that is safe to use on our pets, moderation is always key. A small amount of catnip is harmless to your cat. However, an “overdose” is technically possible. Especially if your cat becomes exposed to the actual catnip plant. Left unsupervised they may overeat the fresh catnip. This could lead to your pet vomiting or to have diarrhea. Beside this caveat however catnip is nontoxic and presents no real danger. If you are over indulgent with the catnip spray it is likely that you will feel nausea due to the scent, long before your cat does. The effects of regular exposure to catnip will usually last between ten and thirty minutes. Once the cat has come down, the antibodies in its blood will usually prevent catnip from having additional effects for around an hour or so.

You can find both catnip toys, dried catnip, spray or even a plant to keep your cat happy.  With so many catnip toys to choose from, you can keep your cat entertained almost as long as you will be while watching him.

Best Cat Carriers

Best Cat Carriers

Sometimes it is necessary to transport your cat to the vet or even with you on a much deserved vacation. You will want to invest in a quality cat carrier to keep your cat safe and secure during these outings. Cat carriers come in many shapes, sizes and designs depending on you and your cats needs. If you plan to take your cat on an airplane, you will want a carrier that is airline approved, so be sure to check with the specific airline for their requirements. If you are in the market for a cat carrier then hopefully one of these fit your needs.

Top 3 Best Cat Carriers

Types of Carriers

Before choosing a cat carrier there are a few important things to consider. The first being the carrier has adequate ventilation, with openings on three sides. It is also helpful to have a cat carrier that opens from the top as well as in the front. Some cats may refuse to get into or out of the carrier and have to be loaded and unloaded. It is much easier from the top than the front or side in this scenario. The bottom line is that it is worth investing in a safe and reliable cat carrier when moving your precious cargo.

Cardboard Carrier – These are usually temporary for transporting your cat. Most cardboard carriers are the same size and do have a lot of space for your cat to comfortably move around. Some cats  have been known to chew through the cardboard or soil it during travel. The opening is not very secure so there is a risk of the cat pushing or pulling his way out of the carrier.

Soft Carriers – These are usually made with flexible materials but sturdy. They are not as bulky or sturdy as hard plastic carriers. Soft carriers usually have more than one opening but can be harder to clean if your cat makes a mess inside. If your cat likes to scratch, he may tear up the carrier. Some cats have been known to push their way out of the carrier at the zipper is not secured.

Rolling Suitcase Style Carriers – These carriers tend to be a little more roomy for the cat and also allow for the cats to see their surroundings. A rolling carrier is better when travelling with other items because you are able to roll the cat to the destination. They can be hard to clean if there is an accident. Some cats do not like the loud and bumpy movement of being rolled across pavement.

Hard Plastic Carriers – Most hard carriers provide ample room for the cat to turn around and stretch while still allowing for the feeling of security. Many have a removable top and are easy to clean if soiled. They are also more durable than the previously mentioned carriers.

By choosing a cat carrier that provides solutions for your cats travel issues and that also has the features you both like, traveling will be easy and secure. Here are some common features you will find when searching for a cat carrier.

Door Openings – A single door only allows one point of entry for your cat. If your cat does not cooperate, it maybe hard to get him in or out of the carrier with one point of entry. Some have top openings in addition to side or front doors. This makes it easier to put the cat in the carrier through the top with minimal stress. More openings allows a variety of ways to access your cat.

Exterior Pockets – Of course pockets are always great for carrying snacks for your cat or important contact information.

Removable Bedding – Many carriers come with a removable pad or bedding making clean up easy. Some even come with two in case of an accident while travelling.

Wheels – Some carriers come with recessed and removable wheels. This makes travel easier when you have several bags to carry. Recessed wheels have been said to be smoother and more quiet.

Reinforcement Screws/Latches –Screws or latches are an easy way to take the top off a hard carrier so your cat may be examined by the vet while remaining in the bottom of the carrier. It can be a little more time consuming but they provide an extra level of security and reinforcement if you have an uncooperative cat.

Seat Belt Loops – Many carriers come with loops for securing your cat carrier in the car seat belts.

Zipper Window – Quick and easy entry for feedings. Not recommended for cats that can push their way through the opening but some come with a locking mechanism.

Flat Folding – Some carriers can be folded flat when not in use. This can make for easy storage or packing it away when you have arrived at your destination.

Leash Clip – If your cat is likely to break out and run you may consider a leash for him. Some carriers have a leash clip so they are unable to make it far from the carrier.

Airline Approved – Of course many carriers claim to be compliant or even approved by certain airlines. Its always recommended you check with your airline before purchasing a carrier for airline travel.

When buying a carrier for your cat, choose a size comfortable enough for your cat to move around in. A lot depends on how much your cat likes or dislikes being moved around. Also, if buying one for a kitten, then go bigger and approximate his future size.
