The Blue Buffalo pet food company was founded in 2003 as an all-natural pet food company by Bill Bishop in an effort to create a high-quality, balanced diet for the family dog, Blue, who suffered from a number of health issues.
Bishop and his family sought to produce a pet food that was made with only the highest quality ingredients available and that is exactly what they have accomplished.
All of Blue Buffalo’s cat food products are manufactured in the United States. Blue Buffalo creates and develops their own recipes with input from qualified veterinarians and PhD nutritionists.
Blue Buffalo’s ingredients come from USDA-approved and inspected facilities. The company only works with United States partners to manufacture their products with strict control measures in place to ensure that both the ingredients and the final products adheres to the highest quality standards.
Blue Buffalo is free from by-product meals as well as corn, soy, and wheat ingredients. They do not use any artificial flavors, preservatives or colors and each of their products is made using high-quality ingredients. The Blue line of cat foods is made with real meat, whole grains, garden fruits and veggies.
More than a decade after the founding of the company, Blue Buffalo has become a household name in quality pet nutrition, offering five different product lines including :Blue Basics – For cats that show signs of being sensitive to some of the ingredients used in traditional pet foods, this is a healthy and holistic, limited-ingredient diet formulated to minimize food sensitivities while maximizing the nutritional value.

Cat Food Recalls
In 2010, Blue Buffalo voluntarily recalled a few products because of a “sequencing error” made by an ingredient supplier. The supplier had conducted a previous processing of Vitamin D in which some carryover may have contaminated the products.
In 2015, Blue Buffalo issued a voluntary recall for 2-ounce pouches of Blue Kitty Yums Tasty Chicken Recipe cat treats due to low levels of propylene glycol.
In May 2016, the FDA issued a recall for 30-pound bags of Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula Fish & Sweet Potato Recipe dry dog food due to possible mold contamination.
Haven’t Used Long Enough. But purchased because it was WAAAAAY less expensive purchasing it from Chewy rather than my local grocery store. This same size bag costs $32 at my local grocers… More importantly, the Cat seems to love the taste and gobbles it up in less than 40secs flat (well – maybe he’s just greedy too) but he most definitely did not eat his other brand so fast and in fact would leave small amounts untouched in his bowl. My hope is that since this is advertised as more digestive friendly – my cat will lose some weight!
Picky eater loves it. My very picky cat loves this food. I try to feed him dry food as a snack, especially overnight, and with other foods he would just snack on them. With this, he eats it all. Immediately. His coat also looks a lot better after alternating this with a lesser quality kibble.
RampsMom reviewing Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken Recipe Grain-Free Dry Cat Food
Great food for its price! My cat has a protein allergy, which doesn’t allow her to eat such proteins as chicken or turkey. We were told we should try duck or rabbit before we switch to the expensive hydrolyzed food. So far so good! She’s been loving it as well! I also find that this has been helping her cat acne! Less greasy I guess. Overall, great food!
Try the small bag first. I trust the brand blur buffalo, so I got the big bag of it. However, after a while, my two cats refused to eat it and one cat easily vomited after several bites. They only ate 1/3 of the bag.

it’s ok…. My cat and two dogs have been on blue buffalo for awhile now and lately they haven’t been liking the food as much. Not sure if it’s because I switched the type of blue buffalo or not but what I have noticed with the cat foods by blue is they have a really gross smell to them. I figured it was just the hairball control so I decided to try this one grain free chicken and it also has a nasty smell to it. When we walk by the bowl it’s just a disturbing funk smell. So I purchased a different brand of food and we will see how that goes. 🙂

mediocre duck. Ordinarily my cats will do anything for duck meat, but they must have disliked the texture (I’m guessing). They would dive into it, then leave about a third of it. No great loss, for the potato is not something they should have anyway. I’m still looking for a canned food they like.
Where to Buy
