The Blue Buffalo pet food company was founded in 2003 as an all-natural pet food company by Bill Bishop in an effort to create a high-quality, balanced diet for the family dog, Blue, who suffered from a number of health issues.

Bishop and his family sought to produce a pet food that was made with only the highest quality ingredients available and that is exactly what they have accomplished.

All of Blue Buffalo’s cat food products are manufactured in the United States. Blue Buffalo creates and develops their own recipes with input from qualified veterinarians and PhD nutritionists.

Blue Buffalo’s ingredients come from USDA-approved and inspected facilities. The company only works with United States partners to manufacture their products with strict control measures in place to ensure that both the ingredients and the final products adheres to the highest quality standards.

Blue Buffalo is free from by-product meals as well as corn, soy, and wheat ingredients. They do not use any artificial flavors, preservatives or colors and each of their products is made using high-quality ingredients. The Blue line of cat foods is made with real meat, whole grains, garden fruits and veggies.

More than a decade after the founding of the company, Blue Buffalo has become a household name in quality pet nutrition, offering five different product lines including :

Blue Basics – For cats that show signs of being sensitive to some of the ingredients used in traditional pet foods, this is a healthy and holistic, limited-ingredient diet formulated to minimize food sensitivities while maximizing the nutritional value.

Blue Wilderness– Inspired by the diet of the lynx, a tireless and legendary hunter, it is a protein-rich, grain-free food that contains more of the delicious meat cats love.

Blue Natural Veterinary Diet– Offers your cat an effective solution with the natural, wholesome ingredients you’ll feel good about feeding your furry family member.

Blue for Cats– BLUE for Cats dry foods, wet foods and treats all feature real meat. Made with whole grains, garden veggies and fruit, plus LifeSource Bits. BLUE cat products do not contain any chicken (or poultry) by-product meals, corn, wheat or soy and nothing artificial and are formulated for cats of all life stages.

Blue Freedom– Some cats just don’t do well with grain-based foods. This contains no grains, so it has none of the glutens that can trigger allergic reactions in some cats.

Positive Reviews

Haven’t Used Long Enough. But purchased because it was WAAAAAY less expensive purchasing it from Chewy rather than my local grocery store. This same size bag costs $32 at my local grocers… More importantly, the Cat seems to love the taste and gobbles it up in less than 40secs flat (well – maybe he’s just greedy too) but he most definitely did not eat his other brand so fast and in fact would leave small amounts untouched in his bowl. My hope is that since this is advertised as more digestive friendly – my cat will lose some weight!

Picky eater loves it. My very picky cat loves this food. I try to feed him dry food as a snack, especially overnight, and with other foods he would just snack on them. With this, he eats it all. Immediately. His coat also looks a lot better after alternating this with a lesser quality kibble.

Great food for its price! My cat has a protein allergy, which doesn’t allow her to eat such proteins as chicken or turkey. We were told we should try duck or rabbit before we switch to the expensive hydrolyzed food. So far so good! She’s been loving it as well! I also find that this has been helping her cat acne! Less greasy I guess. Overall, great food!

Negative Reviews

Try the small bag first. I trust the brand blur buffalo, so I got the big bag of it. However, after a while, my two cats refused to eat it and one cat easily vomited after several bites. They only ate 1/3 of the bag.

it’s ok….  My cat and two dogs have been on blue buffalo for awhile now and lately they haven’t been liking the food as much. Not sure if it’s because I switched the type of blue buffalo or not but what I have noticed with the cat foods by blue is they have a really gross smell to them. I figured it was just the hairball control so I decided to try this one grain free chicken and it also has a nasty smell to it. When we walk by the bowl it’s just a disturbing funk smell. So I purchased a different brand of food and we will see how that goes. 🙂

mediocre duck. Ordinarily my cats will do anything for duck meat, but they must have disliked the texture (I’m guessing). They would dive into it, then leave about a third of it. No great loss, for the potato is not something they should have anyway. I’m still looking for a canned food they like.
