About Nulo Cat Food

Nulo was founded in 2009 by Brett Montana and Michael Landa. Prior to starting Nulo, they were partners in a pet-sitting and dog-walking business in California, where they experienced diabetic pets being given insulin injections.

After discovering the high amount of carbohydrates, lack of meat and high glycemic ingredients in other pet food products, they decided to start their own company, manufacturing pet food. Based in Austin, Texas, Nulo is committed to the development of healthy dog and cat food made from the freshest ingredients.

Nulo offers a variety of formulas and textures for your cat that fits his individual needs. Every cat is different and Nulo wants to be fair to all types of cats regardless of size, life stage and food sensitivities, like allergies. They offer wet food and dry food for your cat in case you would like to stay in the Nulo brand family.

Is Nulo Good Cat Food?

Looking at the ingredients, in most recipes, Nulo is an above average, dry cat food. The carbohydrates are below average while the protein levels exceed other quality dry cat foods on the market today.

Nulo recipes are free from artificial preservatives, fillers, chemicals and grains. They never use poultry or meat by-products or GMOs but include fresh meat, free-roam poultry and wild-caught fish.

Nulo offers both grain and grain free recipes for your cat with several protein varieties including novel proteins. There are some recipes that do include chick peas, sweet potatoes and lentils which are not necessary in a cats diet and are often used in replacement of grains. This would be Nulo’s one downfall as a whole, but most of the cat food recipes list them further down the ingredient list.

Where Is Nulo Cat Food Sold?

Nulo cat foods are available in most pet store chains and pet food specialty stores, although recipes may vary. You can also purchase Nulo cat food online through Chewy, Amazon and various pet food retailers.
